CPD Research
Statement.
Before receiving an acceptance from the University of
Salford, I had always had some kind of work to do; mainly it is helping my
father in his landscape nursery. I have
gained experience in how the business works in landscaping and designing,
looking at AutoCAD drawings, blue prints, and plans, made me like it more and
enjoy it. Because of the enjoyment that
I had in his offices as well as looking around the sites, it is ever since I
have started wanting to be in that kind of position of being an artist and
designer.
Being aware of the changes around us, we live in a time
where every nation meets each other in different places. All the international people in every
country, makes me aware of the languages and their different traditions, and
their way to colour life. This is a big
appreciation from me to have the opportunity to be experienced in different
designs from different minds, which is very influential for my designs and way
of thinking. I speak 3 languages; my
native language is Arabic, second is English and third is French. I understand them all fluently, I speak
Arabic and English fluently, French is not fluent but I manage to make
conversations. When it comes to
management in projects, I am good at finishing on time, and double checking if
it is at a required standard. I am a
hard worker on AutoCAD, my researching does not stop, in my opinion; there are
a lot of things I still do not know about in design because there are is always
something new.
There are many regulations and legislations that I have not
yet studied, but that does not mean that I have no tendency to encounter them
during the stage of learning in University.
Interior design and Architecture have a wide range of regulations and
laws to abide and I might have encountered a few but did not work on them well
enough. Although, I consider myself a
fast and eager learner, I like learning new methods and technologies, which
makes it easier for me to absorb information.
Just as there are positive aspects in me, there are also negative
ones. I feel as though that I should
have had the chance to learn and explore more in designing, and learning about
the regulations and keeping them in mind.
Policies of design, ethical business standards, and account management,
are also not yet learned.
I appreciate the new innovations that are out in markets and
in magazines; I enjoy looking through design and home interior magazines, to
give me a brief look at what is new in interior design trend, to keep up with something
new and what people loved. I am committing
myself into the interior design field because it is what I have always wanted
to do. I think patience is beautiful,
however, knowing me personally I am not a patient person, but I try very hard
to be patient when working on several projects, I do not let myself rush into
it, because if I do, I will not achieve good projects as well as the imagined
or dream result.
Furthermore, my experience
in project procurements is only working in the workshop in the university to make
the projects models, but when I am back to my country, Jordan; I only visit the
site they are working on for construction.
I draw technically, on AutoCAD, Google Sketchup, and will be learning 3D
max soon.
During the summer of 2012, I have been advised to go to a
company called CC (Consolidated Consultants) which is nominated the best
company in Jordan for business, engineering, architecture, landscaping,
interior design, and computer science. I
have not worked on projects there but I have attended 1 month of experience to
work in the environment of a big company that works for the entire Middle East. I felt very special and lucky because
everyone in my country wants to work in that company and I have had a great
offer from my cousin who is the head of the Architecture department. Basically, I have just been taught and
advised by employees and interior designer about the work they do and how they
manage their projects. I have been
taught to research materials and their uses in houses, buildings, restaurants, etc.
I have had a great relationship with employees and the managers; I still did
not encounter with clients of my own, but I will come back to them as an intern
next year.
There is a lot of collaboration with me when I am in a group
or team. I am very punctual, and I am an
understanding person, I listen to my leader or my colleague, and I am very friendly
with strangers. I am very timid at
first, and not very confident when presenting my work in presentations or to
professors, although, on the other hand, I am good at presentations, I believe
in myself and believe in my work, by the end of the day I am proud. I plan to continue in developing my technical
skills to become a professional, and to become more aware of the prototyping
skills and the wide range of media. I
know that if I love doing something then I should commit myself into doing it
right, I understand the imperatives of professional practice, and being exposed
to value, knowledge and appreciation to being a successful designer.
I am willing to be successful, because I am determined and
still a learner, I learn in university and outside university, I feel as though
I have wasted some of my time in previous years not researching or knowing well
enough in my field, however, even though I have a weaknesses, I use those
weaknesses and try all I can to fill in the required knowledge, to make me
fully aware of interior design.
